SUMMARY:Skills Day for Perinatal Visiting Nurses
DESCRIPTION:This program will review the basic essentials of conducting a home visit for birthing parents and newborns. Topics will include steps of conducing a home visit safely\, maternal and newborn assessment\, infant feeding challenges\, addressing emergencies\, and community resources and referrals. Participants will have opportunity for questions\, discussions\, and learning from each other.  \nTarget Audience \nPerinatal Visiting Nurses \nLearning Outcome \nAt the conclusion of the program\, participants will report an increase in knowledge and skill to effectively and safely conduct perinatal home visits. \nDisclosure/Commercial Support \nThe planners and speakers do not have any conflicts of interest to report for this activity. There is no commercial support for this activity. \nContinuing Nursing Education Contact Hours \nThis program has been awarded 6.0 contact hours. \nThe Partnership for Maternal and Child Health of Northern New Jersey is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by New Jersey State Nurses Association\, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. SUMMARY:Basic Life Support Certification Course
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Kieyeitha Ward \nBasic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare professionals trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies\, give high-quality CPR\, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. \nTarget Audience: The BLS Course from the American Heart Association is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings. \nCourse Components:  \n\nHigh-quality CPR for adults\, children\, and infants\nThe AHA Chain of Survival\, specifically the BLS components\nImportant early use of an AED\nEffective ventilations using a barrier device\nImportance of teams in multirescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multirescuer CPR\nRelief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants\n\n  \nThe American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in all AHA courses and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the AHA. Any fees charged for such a course\, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course materials\, do not represent income to the AHA.
