SUMMARY:Meningitis Prevention at a Crossroads:  Policy Changes\, Real Lives\, and Local Action
DESCRIPTION:Virtual Presentation during the Essex Metro Immunization Coalition (EMIC) Meeting \nThe American Society for Meningitis Prevention (ASMP) will join EMIC to highlight the human impact of meningococcal meningitis through powerful personal stories from families affected by the disease\, underscoring the critical importance of timely vaccination. Participants will gain a clear\, practical overview of meningococcal meningitis\, including how it spreads\, potential outcomes\, and proven prevention strategies\, with a focus on currently available meningococcal vaccines. The session will conclude by sharing resources and partnership opportunities with ASMP to support and amplify local meningococcal meningitis prevention and education campaigns. \nTarget Audience: Nurses\, Physicians\, Community Health Workers\, Health Educators \nPresenters: \nMary Beth Koslap-Petraco\, DNP PPCNP-BC CPNP FAANP\, Clinical Assistant Professor\, Stony Brook University School of Nursing\, Nurse Consultant\, Immunize.org\, Owner/NP\, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner House Calls PLLC \nAlicia Stillman\, MPH\, MBA\, Co-Founder\, ASMP \nPatti Wukovits\, BSN\, RN\, AMB-BC\, Co-Founder\, ASMP \nLearning Outcome: At the conclusion of the program\, participants will report an increase in knowledge related to meningococcal meningitis\, prevention strategies\, and community support. \nDisclosure/Commercial Support: None of the speakers or planners have relevant financial relationships to disclose.
