ALMA Peer Mentor

LOCATION:  Newark, NJ/Hybrid

CLASSIFICATION:  Part-Time – 20 hours/week

SALARY:  $23.50/hour

JOB SUMMARY:  

The Alma Peer Mentor will be responsible for utilizing lived experiences and following the guidelines of the Alma Peer Mentor Model, providing coaching, support, and skills to new and expectant birthing individuals who are struggling with mental health and/or substance use challenges, in Essex and Warren Counties. The Alma Peer Mentor will provide program services through one-on-one sessions and link individuals to community resources including mental health and/or substance use treatment, as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Contribute to the Partnership’s commitment to equity and continuous quality improvement that aligns with the agency’s mission, goals, and advancement.
  • Complete the Alma Peer Mentor Training and all other training activities as required by the grant.
  • Adhere to all elements of Alma program model including, but not limited to service delivery, documentation, policies/procedures.
  • Effectively cross-collaborate with agency staff, leaders, and board members to foster a comprehensive approach of information sharing, working committees, and collective representation.
  • Routinely disseminate relevant information, presentations, trainings, and learning opportunities for internal program and agency staff.
  • Participate in all relevant on-going staff development opportunities (trainings, summits, conferences, etc.) to increase skill development, elevate program goals, and engage staff members with timely key learnings.
  • Acts as a positive role model by sharing experiential knowledge, hope, and skills in accordance with Alma program model guidelines/requirements.
  • Advocates, empowers, assists individuals to connect with resources as needed to increase well-being.
  • Empowers individuals to make self-determined and self-directed choices about their well-being.
  • Ensures confidentiality of all client information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Lived experience and understanding of recovery principles and/or prenatal and postpartum behavioral health.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred.
  • Knowledge of local community resources in Essex and Warren Counties, particularly in perinatal mental health and substance use treatment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient using virtual collaboration tool such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other video conferencing platforms.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and ability to engage effectively with individuals.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work well in diverse settings.
  • Good written communication skills.
