JOB SUMMARY: The Healthcare Bias Training Manager will work closely with the NJ Department of Health to lead the development and expansion of both explicit and implicit bias training in maternal health across New Jersey’s healthcare system. This role is crucial in fostering an inclusive environment, enhancing healthcare delivery, and addressing biases that contribute to disparities in maternal health outcomes. The position will be responsible for identifying and building relationships with champions in hospitals, hospital systems, and birthing centers, evaluating the current landscape of bias training, developing and coordinating tailored training programs and events, and assessing the uptake and impact of training throughout the state.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Identify and recruit hospital champions within labor and delivery units who will advocate for and lead bias training initiatives within their departments.
- Work closely with maternal and child health consortia in Central and Southern New Jersey to ensure diverse representation among champions and to facilitate collaboration across the state.
- Foster strong relationships with hospital leadership and training departments, community stakeholders, and policymakers to ensure buy-in for bias training efforts and align the program with organizational priorities.
- Develop, update, and customize training content to address explicit and implicit biases, specifically in maternal health settings. Tailor content to different staff roles, including clinicians, administrative staff, and support personnel.
- Conduct a landscape analysis of existing bias training programs and initiatives in New Jersey and identify promising or evidence-based programs to integrate into the training curriculum.
- Ensure that training materials reflect a wide range of cultural, racial, and socioeconomic perspectives and are accessible to all healthcare providers.
- Organize and facilitate in-person and virtual training sessions for hospital staff, ensuring high levels of engagement and participation.
- Work with hospital administrators and department heads to ensure that all relevant staff, including new hires, receive training within the appropriate timeframe.
- Oversee all aspects of training delivery, including scheduling, resource allocation, and participant communication.
- Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the impact of the training programs on reducing biases and improving patient care.
- Collect and analyze feedback from training participants to assess effectiveness and identify areas for improvement in content, delivery methods, and engagement strategies.
- Provides timely reports on training outcomes, challenges, and successes in reporting as required by the funder.
- Act as a liaison between healthcare providers, hospital leadership, and community stakeholders to advocate for the importance of ongoing bias training and its role in improving patient outcomes.
- Facilitate discussions and workshops aimed at increasing awareness about the impact of bias in healthcare and fostering an organizational culture of inclusion and equity.
- Remain informed about the latest research, trends, and evidence-based practices related to bias training in healthcare, particularly in maternal health.
- Recommend improvements to training content and delivery based on ongoing evaluations, participant feedback, and emerging evidence.
- Support the development of surveys, listening sessions and development project evaluation.
- Work with vendors identified by funder including updating contracts, receiving invoices, and processing payments.
- Manage program budget according to funder expectations, grant requirements, and PMCH policy.
- Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in DEI and healthcare training.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Education, Social Work, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in hospital administration, hospital-based learning management, or a related field with experience leading diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in a clinical setting.
- Experience designing, developing, and implementing training programs, particularly in healthcare or related settings.
- Familiarity with current research and approaches to address explicit and implicit bias, particularly in maternal and reproductive healthcare.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to engage, motivate, and inspire diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to lead training sessions, facilitate discussions, and create interactive learning environments.
- Strong organizational skills and experience managing multiple projects with competing deadlines.
- Ability to assess training effectiveness using data and feedback, and adjust strategies as needed.
- Skilled in using virtual training platforms, learning management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with software such as Articulate Rise is a plus.
- Understanding cultural, racial, and socioeconomic factors that impact healthcare delivery and maternal health outcomes.
