SUMMARY:Skills Day for Perinatal Visiting Nurses
DESCRIPTION:This program will review the basic essentials of conducting a home visit for birthing parents and newborns. Topics will include steps of conducting a home visit safely\, maternal and newborn assessment\, infant feeding challenges\, addressing emergencies\, and community resources and referrals. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions\, engage in discussions\, and learn from one another.  \nTarget Audience \nPerinatal Visiting Nurses \nLearning Outcome \nAt the conclusion of the program\, participants will report an increase in knowledge and skill to effectively and safely conduct perinatal home visits. \nDisclosure/Commercial Support \nThe planners and speakers do not have any conflicts of interest to report for this activity. Healthcare professionals working in the inpatient setting may find more value in our full-day program\, which will be scheduled later in the year.  \nThis training is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of healthcare professionals in the community setting who provide care and support to New Jersey families experiencing perinatal loss.  \nAfter attending this program\, participants will be able to: \nDefine the five types of perinatal loss \n\nImplement communication skills with parents and family members\nReview the ethical dilemmas that can occur with deaths in the NICU\nExplain best practice for supporting families with pregnancy after loss\nDescribe ways to support families during pregnancy after loss\nState resources for bereaved families\nVerbalize methods of self care when working with bereaved families\n\n\n  \nTarget Audience \nPerinatal Community Nurses\, Doulas\, Community Health Workers \nLearning Outcome \nAfter attending the program\, 85% of attendees will report an increase in knowledge and skill to be able to effectively care for families who experience perinatal loss. \nDisclosure/Commercial Support \nThe planners and speakers do not have any conflicts of interest to report for this activity.
