Alma Peer Support
Pregnancy and new parenthood can bring on a wave of emotions. If you are feeling overwhelmed or need to talk to someone who understands, the Alma program can help. This free peer-to-peer mentoring program was created with and for new and expecting birthing persons who are experiencing depression, anxiety, and stress.
The Alma program can give you the support and skills you need to navigate your pregnancy and ensure that you and your baby thrive.
The Alma program, the first of its kind in New Jersey, is an evidence-based peer support program that was developed by a collaborative team of English and Spanish-speaking researchers at the University of Colorado Boulder, as well as mental health providers, community members, and parents. The Alma program is based on behavioral activation, psychotherapy with more than twenty years of evidence from treatment studies conducted all over the world. In New Jersey, the Alma program is administered by Family Health Initiatives, in collaboration with community partners, with funding from the New Jersey Department of Health.
