JOB SUMMARY:
The Alma Peer Mentor will use personal lived experiences to offer coaching, support, and skill-building to new and expectant birthing individuals facing mental health and/or substance use challenges across Northern New Jersey (Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, Union, Warren Counties), following the guidelines of the Alma Peer Mentor Model. The mentor will provide program services through one-on-one weekly sessions and connect individuals to community resources, including mental health and substance use treatment, when necessary. This role will also emphasize outreach, education, and engagement through both community-based events and hospital programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Support the Partnership’s commitment to equity and continuous improvement aligned with the agency’s mission.
• Conduct outreach to community organizations, hospitals, clinics, and family-based agencies to increase awareness of Alma program services.
• Complete all Alma Peer Mentor training and any other required activities as required by the grant.
• Adhere to Alma program model guidelines, including but not limited to, service delivery, documentation, and policies.
• Lead presentations, trainings, and learning opportunities for internal staff and community partners.
• Participate in all ongoing staff development to enhance skills, elevate program goals and engage staff with key learnings.
• Serve as a positive role model, sharing personal experience and hope, following Alma model guidelines/requirements.
• Advocate for and empower individuals to access resources and improve their well-being.
• Maintain confidentiality of all client information.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree preferred.
• Lived experience and knowledge of recovery principles, prenatal, and postpartum behavioral health.
• Familiarity with local community resources throughout the 8 counties in Northern New Jersey (Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, Union, and Warren) particularly in the areas of perinatal mental health and substance use.
• Ability to work independently in a hybrid environment with minimal supervision.
• Proficient using virtual collaboration tools such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other video conferencing platforms.
• Strong verbal communication skills and ability to engage effectively with individuals.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
• Collaborative team player with the ability to work well in diverse settings.
• Must have reliable transportation to travel to and from work-related activities
