LOCATION: Irvington, NJ/Hybrid
CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time – 37.5 hours/week

JOB SUMMARY:
*$2,000 Signing Bonus*
Provide education on problem-solving, self-care and emotional support to parents through their postpartum journey in Bergen, Morris, and Passaic Counties. Also, provide lactation education and support to the birthing parents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Carry a minimum of a caseload of 20 individuals.
- Provide support to the birthing person and their family for a minimum of 6 months post-birth.
- Provide emotional and physical support to the birthing person and their family during the postpartum period.
- Conduct postnatal in-person/virtual visits with the birthing parent in accordance with program protocol.
- Provide information, education, and resources related to the postpartum period.
- Support the birthing person by increasing their ability to advocate for themselves, especially during the postpartum period.
- Maintain regular communication with the birthing person via phone and text during usual business hours.
- Evening and weekend calls may be necessary.
- Ensure the birthing person is receiving self-care techniques, lactation support, and strategies to optimize parent/baby bonding and attachment.
- Discuss perinatal mental health with birthing parent(s), and screen for depression and anxiety during the postpartum period (and refer to proper services, if necessary).
- Encourage and support the birthing person to attend their postpartum visit with their medical provider.
- Complete forms for each postnatal visit (i.e., CenteringPregnancy, Federally Qualified Health Centers, other prenatal care providers, Connecting NJ, home visitation programs, etc.)
- Establish positive relationships with area hospitals, prenatal clinics, and pediatric providers.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with staff at birthing facilities and community-based organizations, in the program region.
- Document accurate postnatal visits with the birthing person using program collection forms and complete data entry into the program database.
- Meet with the Director of Community Programs regularly to review program progress, challenges, and data collection.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- English/ Spanish (preferred)
- Have obtained certification from one of the postpartum Doula training programs recognized by the New Jersey Department of Health ( Ancient Song Doula services, Azizi Village, or Health Connect One.
- Current and valid First Aid/CPR Certification
- Have reliable transportation and the ability to travel to various clinic/hospital locations and birthing parents’ homes as needed.
- Experience providing community education, home visiting, and/or supportive services for birthing individuals and families.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Computer literacy in MS Office Suite.
