National Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month is an annual celebration highlighting history, culture, and more! Our NJ Postpartum Resources and Support Network team came together to share three impactful videos on our social media, highlighting key issues, stories, and resources that resonate during this month of awareness.

The first video of the Hispanic heritage series delves into the importance of culturally competent healthcare, showcasing how language barriers and cultural differences can affect healthcare outcomes. Many Hispanic women face challenges accessing prenatal care, which can lead to complications during pregnancy. The video emphasizes the need for healthcare providers to be aware of these barriers and take active steps to provide more accessible and personalized care. This ensures that women feel heard and understood, leading to healthier outcomes for mothers and their children.

In the second National Hispanic Heritage Month video, the focus shifts to the stories of Hispanic mothers who have overcome significant obstacles during their pregnancy journeys. These stories highlight the resilience and strength of Hispanic women, who often juggle cultural expectations, family obligations, and the realities of healthcare disparities. The narrative shared in the video offers a glimpse into the cultural taboos and triumphs of motherhood, and it addresses the importance of support systems, both at home and in the healthcare setting.

The final video calls healthcare providers and community members to action. It discusses how everyone can advocate for better maternal and child health outcomes in Hispanic communities. Whether through policy changes, community programs, or simply listening to their concerns, the video encourages collective responsibility in ensuring that Hispanic women and their families receive the care they need.

As we celebrate Hispanic culture for National Hispanic Heritage Month, it’s important to break barriers and prioritize maternal mental health. You are not alone, and we are here to support the well-being of all families. Our NJ Postpartum Resources and Support Network team offers many support groups in English and Spanish.
