Perinatal Mental Health: In the Case of Neonatal or Fetal Anomaly Diagnosis

This virtual training focuses on the unique emotional, psychological, and relational impacts of fetal or neonatal diagnosis and disability on parents and caregivers. Participants will learn how grief, trauma, anxiety, and identity shifts may emerge alongside medical decision-making and ongoing care. Emphasis is placed on compassionate communication, anticipatory guidance, and trauma-responsive support that centers family resilience and long-term mental health outcomes.

Presenter: Kara Kushnir, LCSW, PMH-C, is the Founder and Clinical Director of A Work of Heart Counseling in Allendale & Oradell, NJ, and Partnerships & Training Manager for HFNJ Project with of Postpartum Support International NJ. She has been practicing as a psychotherapist for over a decade and practices with survivors of trauma in the perinatal period, including birth trauma, NICU stays, infant loss, and stillbirth.
