Mariekarl Vilceus-Talty

Mariekarl Vilceus-Talty is the President and CEO of the Partnership for Maternal and Child Health of Northern New Jersey.  Since beginning her tenure in early 2021, Mariekarl has been unwavering in her commitment to changing the paradigm in maternal health. She has focused on transformative change, redefining the organization’s vision and innovating new programs that work to eliminate healthcare disparities in maternal and child health.

Under Mariekarl’s leadership, the Partnership has chartered a journey to becoming an anti-racist organization, taking steps to create a more just and productive environment. She has expanded and strengthened community partnerships to highlight diverse community organizations and servant leadership, ensuring those most proximate to the issue have a seat at the table.  She has advocated for and received legislative funding to implement a diverse doula workforce training. Mariekarl also initiated the Center for Clinical Impact, a program focused on professional clinical expertise and education to positively impact patient outcomes.

Mariekarl’s dedication to improving maternal health outcomes, promoting health equity, advancing social justice, and preventing human trafficking has not gone unnoticed. Her passion and commitment have been recognized with the prestigious Nurses with Global Impact Award. She has also received several other acknowledgments and awards, including the March of Dimes’ Nurse Leader of the Year, the March of Dimes’ 2010 Maternal Child Health Award for Clinical Excellence, the Leadership in Simulation Award, and the Jersey City Medical Center Nurse Excellence Award – Transformational Leader. In 2024, Mariekarl was honored at the Executive Women of New Jersey’s Salute to Policymakers Gala.

As a lifetime learner, Mariekarl is an avid participant in peer groups and community organizations participating in several task forces, workgroups, and Governor Murphy-appointed committees, including the COVID-19 Advisory Taskforce, Historical and Systemic Inequities Workgroup, Maternal Care Quality Collaborative (MCQC), Maternal Mortality Review Committee (MMRC) Maternal Stakeholders Committee Co-Chair part of Perinatal Quality Committee New Jersey Preventive Health Advisory Committee (NJPHAC). Additionally, Mariekarl has been featured as a guest speaker at university events, educational conferences, and television & radio appearances, including State of Affairs with Steve Adubato, News 12 New Jersey, 6abc -WPVI-TV, NJ 101.5, the Educate US podcast, and The Giblin Report.  

Prior to joining the Partnership, Mariekarl had a distinguished career as a nurse with over 20 years of direct experience. Most recently, Mariekarl was the Senior Director of Nursing and Patient Experience at Jersey City Medical Center – RWJBarnabas Health. She oversaw a team of 700 employees and focused on patient safety and improving care. Her experience on the frontlines of maternal care shapes her perspective on bridging service gaps and advocating for patient-centered care.

Mariekarl received an MA in Nurse Executive from Columbia University and her BS in Nursing from Adelphi University. She is a member of the American Nurses Association (ANA), Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), the Haitian American Nurses Association of Greater New York (HANA), Organization of Nurse Leaders (ONL), and the Honor Society of Nursing Sigma Theta Tau (STTI) – Columbia University Alpha Zeta Chapter.

Mariekarl’s commitment to public health spans internationally. She serves as the Chairwoman of Mission Granbois, a private non-profit foundation started in 2009 by her family. The organization’s mission is to change the narrative of the Granbois community through education, health, and financial literacy.
